Lessons are designed to suit the individual whether a child or an adult. There is no pressure to take exams but the opportunity is available to those who want to. Mostly Music generally uses the ABRSM graded exams and Music Medals but has occasionally used Trinity Guildhall.
Katherine encourages all instrumentalists, whatever their age or ability, to take part in an ensemble in their
local area. Several pupils have played with Orchestras for All either in their Modulo Programme or NOFA
(National Orchestra for All)
Parents are welcome to come to the lessons if they wish to.
I have an enhanced DBS which enables me to work with children and vulnerable people.
Pupils can be taught as individuals or in small groups if friends want to learn together.
I teach because I want to pass on my skills to others and hope that they gain as much pleasure from
playing a musical instrument as I do.
It should be fun and not a chore – however, you do need to work hard.

What they say
A year 7 trumpet student:“Mrs Owen is the only person to understand me; she has really helped me to learn to play the trumpet.”
A Happy parent: “Mrs Owen has the patience of a saint! She will succeed where others do not”
An adult student: “I gave up music in my youth so Katherine encouraged me to pursue this hobby again. She gave me the
confidence to believe in myself and with her help and enthusiasm I achieved a distinction in my grade 5 theory at the age of 40!”
